Our research proposal
In the past, people only learn sex education through parents and school. Sex education is important because it teaches children to protect themselves, and they learn the basic ideas of family. However, sometimes the parents and the teachers are embarrassed to teach the children about sex. Nowadays, social media becomes a tool for sex education. The people can access the sex information that they are interested in, and discuss it with their peers.
There are a number of pages online that contain information about sex. Whether or not the information is accurate, the information is shaping and influencing the people. The children learn the basic ideas about sex from the sex education provided by parents and schools, when the children grow up, they find their own ways to learn more about sex. The sex information on social media platforms is reshaping the sex concepts of the people that they had learned from the parents and schools.
Interestingly, the way that male and female access sex information on social media is different. The pages they ‘like’ online, their sex concept, and their attitude towards sex are different. It would be interesting to do research on the differences of how male and female access sex information on social media.
In the research, we hope to find out the differences of the view on sex between male and female, how they find contents about sex on social media, and whether social media is a good platform for sexual education and information.
